4. Mike Wallace (2009-2012)

Record: 40-23

Win percentage: 63.5%

Mike Wallace may have had a career record that was worse than Heath Miller’s, but his impact on the field was undeniable. Though he wasn’t the most well-rounded receiver in terms of his route tree and ability to routinely catch the ball in traffic, he did have a trait most receivers only dream of, top-end speed.

Wallace was one of the fastest receivers in the NFL during his time in Pittsburgh, as evidenced by his 20 yards per catch over his first two seasons. The speedy receiver was a solid ball-tracker down the field who was arguably the best in the league at getting past his defender down the field.

If Wallace was a more complete player, he could have been even higher on this list of the most important skill players of the past decade. However, he was primarily just a deep threat and he never caught more than 63.2 percent of his targets in Pittsburgh.

Still, Wallace’s ability to stretch the field was extremely rare. He lands at number four on my list of most important Steelers skill players since 2010.
