Dan McCullers has drawn the ire of Steelers nation ever since his immense size never showed up properly on tape. Even with his consistent disappointment, he has found the way to make the roster every year as the backup NT. With Tyson Alualu set to man the position this year, there was a real chance McCullers could lose his spot to a player with more upside.

Insert 7th round pick Carlos Davis from Nebraska. Davis had some pop on tape, but he completely disappeared during stretches of games. That said, with Alualu set to start, allowing Davis to grow on the roster was a real possibility. He would have had to show something during camp and preseason though, so that opportunity may have escaped him.

More than likely, the Steelers will opt to keep McCullers since Davis won’t be able to show anything against opposing teams. Thus, McCullers will likely find himself on yet another opening day roster. Davis is a safe bet to find his way on the practice squad, but his odds of making the active roster seem slim.
