Kameron Kelly

After the American Alliance Football league suspended operations back in April of 2019, the Steelers signed standout AAF safety, Kameron Kelley. Kelly was a former undrafted free agent signed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2018 but didn’t stick on an NFL roster. In the AAF, Kelley recorded a 3-interception game against the Salt Lake Stallions.

This impressive play caught the attention of the Steelers who signed Kelly last offseason. Unfortunately, the jump back to the NFL proved too big for Kelly. Though the young safety appeared to show some promise during the preseason, Kelly was picked on early and often during the regular season.

When forced to start Week 1 against the New England Patriots, Kelley was the weakest link of a defense that ultimately surrendered 33 points in that game. According to Pro Football Reference, Kelly allowed all 10 of his targets to be completed for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns last sesaon.

Kelly was quickly demoted to a backup, but even then, he couldn’t be trusted when he entered the field. Though the Steelers might not have the best safety depth, losing Kameron Kelly should be an addition by subtraction this year.

All three of these players had their moments for the Steelers, but they were very short-lived. Of the three, Mark Barron is clearly the player Pittsburgh could end up missing the most. However, with their disappointing play in 2019, each of these players could prove to be addition by subtraction for the team in 2020.
