Eric Ebron

Projected points: 117.71

Overall rank: 198th

Tight end rank: 18th

Steelers fans have a reason to be excited about Eric Ebron joining the squad this year. Just two years removed from a Pro Bowl sesaon where he earned 66 receptions, 750 yards, and 13 touchdowns, Ebron provides an athletic pass-catching option to the middle of the field for Pittsburgh.

However, if you are expecting Ebron to be a top-five receiving tight end, you may want to pump the breaks. It’s true that given enough volume in the passing game, Ebron is a talented enough player to accomplish this feat. Unfortunately, despite his resume as a former first-round draft choice and Pro Bowl tight end, Ebron projects to be somewhere between 3rd-5th in line for targets on an offense that likely won’t pass as much as they used to.

This obviously limits Ebron’s fantasy upside with the Steelers. Also, Ebron has struggled as a blocker in the past, and Vance McDonald may see a bulk of the snaps in 12 personnel this year. Projected just 18th in fantasy points among tight ends this year, he’s likely a backup stash on your fantasy team if your league is deep enough to roster two tight ends.

While there are a few Steelers with high fantasy upside this season, others like Vance McDonald and Benny Snell are not worth owning unless injuries occur. Pittsburgh could be a solid competitor in 2020, but it’s unlikely we will see the dominant fantasy performances like we’ve witnessed in the past.
