The Pittsburgh Steelers stand to be a competitive team in 2020, but here are their five most overhyped players heading into the year.

Every team has players that receive too much attention and fail to live up to lofty expectations, the Steelers are no exception. Despite winning 7 of 8 games from Week 4 to Week 14 last season, Pittsburgh completely underwhelmed in 2019 with an 8-8 record. Still, there are certain players the media tends to focus on.

While some of Pittsburgh’s best players tend to be overlooked, others receive too much praise despite underperforming. Here are the five most overhyped Steelers heading into the 2020 season:

5. WR Chase Claypool

Chase Claypool could very well end up being a dominant receiver down the line for the Steelers, but fans really need to hold off on any lofty expectations they may have for the rookie wide receiver in 2020. Not only do NFL teams have a shortened offseason program that included skipping rookie minicamps this year, but the preseason has already been shortened for Pittsburgh as well.

In addition to a lack of time to get acclimated to his teammates and the playbook, many believe that Claypool was drafted higher than he should have been based on terrific athletic testing. According to Three Sigma Athlete, Claypool tested as a 98th percentile athlete at the NFL Combine. However, many don’t feel his tape matches his testing numbers.

Claypool has been receiving a lot of buzz as Pittsburgh’s highest draft pick this year, but he’s largely been overhyped so far. Let’s hold off on our expectations for now.
