Devlin “Duck” Hodges

The short-lived legend of Duck Hodges swept Pittsburgh and the NFL for a couple of weeks before the Steelers blew an 8-5 record and missed the playoffs. Hodges was a disappointment more often than not and it became apparent that his legend was over.

Filling in for Mason Rudolph, Hodges sparked a dead offense. However, he then began to cause the reoccurring offensive woes after his couple weeks of flying high. Hodges enters the season with the former first-round pick, Paxton Lynch right behind him. Lynch also has starting experience in the league and that pedigree that comes with being a team’s first selection. Hodges will have to show his coaches a lot for them to keep him on board. Hodges also had practice squad ability, so he could always be sent there as well.

Hodges started off with a 3-0 record while starting for the Steelers before the season was blundered and the playoffs were missed. The team went 0-3 in the remainder of the season and much of that had to do with the lack of quarterback play.

During that time Hodges put up a stat line of 1,063 yards passing, five passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions through six starts. The legend of Hodges might have been just a blip on the radar and a great trivia question in the future.
