The Pittsburgh Steelers have numerous players who are a lock to make the roster this year. Here are the players you can count on to keep their helmet in September.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are just weeks away from kicking off the 2020 season on the road against the New York Giants, and there is still a lot of work that needs to be done by the coaching staff and front office. The NFL allowed for just an 80-man roster this offseason that will need to be cut down to 53 players before the season starts.
While many players will be forced to look for employment elsewhere, there are quite a few Steelers who are considered locks to make Pittsburgh’s roster in 2020. Here are all of their roster locks heading into the season:
Quarterbacks:
Ben Roethlisberger
Mason Rudolph
This pretty much goes without saying, but Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph are the only two roster locks at quarterback heading into 2020. Kevin Colbert made it abundantly clear this offseason that they were ‘comfortable’ with Rudolph as the team’s number two passer for the upcoming season.
Behind them, there is essentially a two-way battle between last year’s QB3, Devlin Hodges, and former Broncos first-round pick, Paxton Lynch. Hodges has the benefit of coming off recent game experience with the Steelers and has developed some chemistry with players on the roster, while Lynch is a bigger and more athletic quarterback with more arm talent. It will be interesting to see who sticks.
