Safeties

Minkah Fitzpatrick

Terrell Edmunds

This may seem strange only including two safeties as locks this year, but I can see several scenarios playing out for the team’s third safety. Clearly, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds won’t be leaving the field this year unless there are injuries, but the safety position is very murky after the top two.

Jordan Dangerfield is the most likely to lock down a roster spot after these two, but the box safety has contributed in a very limited fashion on defense during his career, and he has the least amount of upside of the group. He does, however, play special teams, and that alone should be enough for him to earn a helmet.

Antoine Brooks is the other player who the Steelers like. The sixth-round draft choice is cut from the same mold as Dangerfield as he is a strong, physical safety who excels in the box. But without preseason, it would be hard to trust him in that role. Marcus Allen could be on the outside looking in again this year.
