Alejandro Villanueva

Alejandro Villanueva is still the left tackle for this team and he has done a decent job over the years. The concern I have for him is his age. He has been solid the past four years of his five-year career but he is about to turn 32.

There is a report from Ed Bouchette that the Steelers are not going to extend Villanueva and that could mean this is his last year as the Steelers left tackle. I think the Steelers drafted Chukwoma Okorafor to be the eventual replacement at left tackle.

The problem is that left tackle is such a key position for the future and Chuks has the potential but hasn’t performed in my opinion to a level that would make me comfortable with him there. He did flash in a game against the Denver Broncos so there is hope for the third-round pick.

Matt Feiler

Matt Feiler is the wild card on this offensive line. He has certainly has earned a starting role on this offensive line, the question is whether it will be at left guard or right tackle. Feiler was primarily the Steeler’s right tackle in 2020 but did play the left guard position when facing Aaron Donald and the Los Angeles Rams.

Some question whether Feiler will do well at left guard, but I don’t think that will be the problem for him transitioning. I think the question is more whether Zack Banner is the right man for the job at right tackle.

Zack Banner did a very nice job playing the tackle eligible tight end role for the Steelers in 2019. He has taken an active role in the community and an interest in Black Lives Matter and Women’s issues. He has the body type to be an NFL right tackle.
