David Decastro

David Decastro is another longtime staple on the offensive line who could be in the twilight of his career. He is still a productive starter and will continue to be the right guard going forward until his play drops off. I am optimistic that 2020 will be a good year for him and that 2021 he will be the right guard to play out the end of his contract.

What I love about Decastro at this point in his career is how gritty he is. He plays with a broken hand and still plays to the standard. He has had a great career being able to stay on the field despite all the bumps and bruises that come with being an NFL offensive lineman.

There is something to consider with this team. It may be time to start drafting offensive linemen in the earlier rounds again. They had a run about a decade ago where they were adding a lot of high picks in the early rounds to the offensive line. That may have to start again in the coming years.

This had been a good generation of offensive linemen for the Steelers. When you have Decastro, Pouncey, Gilbert, Villanueva, and Foster for as long as you have, you have to appreciate that. I think Decastro has been the best of the bunch at his position.
