Jeff Holland

Jeff Holland had a cup of coffee with the Broncos after going undrafted last year, but he now finds himself as a free agent. While his stats with the Broncos weren’t noteworthy by any means, his play in college was something the Steelers must have noticed. He recorded 9.5 sacks his junior year before declaring for the draft. While that stat line didn’t get him drafted, it did aid in him making an active roster last year.

To be frank, Holland would be a practice squad hopeful, as the active roster already has five realistic candidates to make it. That said, the only other option on the roster is UDFA James Lockhart, so adding the extra competition couldn’t hurt. Holland would be instantly in the race for one of the expanded practice squad spots. At that point, he would be only an injury or illness designation away from being called up to the active roster.

Seeing how he looks in a tryout makes a lot of sense for the Steelers, as it can allow them to add to the young stable of pass rushers the team already has. Considering there are a larger amount of practice squad spots that are wide open, adding as many quality options at a position as important as pass rusher makes sense. Holland probably won’t make the active roster, but he could find his way onto the practice squad.
