Kentrell Brothers

Kentrell Brothers has little experience on defense, but the ILB was a proven special teams threat while with the Vikings. Considering the Steelers depth issues at ILB, Brothers would be a sound player to kick the tires on with a tryout. As of now, the Steelers current penciled in fourth ILB is Robert Spillane, and while he excelled at special teams, he could certainly use competition for the final roster spot.

Brothers would provide that, as he has good size and decent athleticism at the position. As well, he continued to see his role with the Vikings expand, logging as many as 110 defensive snaps last year. While that experience wouldn’t prompt the team to instantly keep him, it would provide a worst-case scenario player if injuries force the Steelers hand. Brothers has at least seen the field on defense, something Spillane has yet to do.

Adding Brothers would at least improve the competition at camp, and he could find his way to a roster spot if he impresses. At the very worst, he would be a decent special teamer and a halfway experienced option at ILB if an injury forced him to play. The Steelers need more depth at ILB, and Brothers could serve that role for the Steelers.
