5 surprise players who made Steelers 53-man roster in 2020
Sean Davis
Davis signed with the Washington Football Team this past off-season, his hometown team on a one year prove-it kind of deal. It seems like Davis did not prove anything while being there and was cut by the team. Davis cleared waivers and would re-sign with the team that drafted him the day after being cut.
The Steelers drafted Davis in the second round when he came out of Maryland. Davis brings in much needed veteran depth at the safety position as he started both at free and strong safety during his time with the Steelers.
Davis could even provide some starting competition with Terrell Edmunds during the season for the starting strong safety position. Davis joins an already deep and talented secondary for this Steelers defense and one that all Steelers fans should be excited for. He may not be the most talented starter in the league but he can provide something that the team lacked before, insurance. Before he rejoined the team, the Steelers would have struggled mightily if either starter went down due to injury, now they have someone they know and that is more reliable.
Davis was a great pickup for a team in major depth at this position. Curtis Riley was released and signed to the practice squad for more added veteran depth.
The Steelers could always shake up their roster some more as they prepare for week one versus the New York Giants. Tinkering with the roster is not uncommon throughout the season so don’t be surprised if things change.
