Darius Slayton

Verdict: Start ‘Em

While the Steelers deep threat in Washington is a sit candidate for week one, the Giants Darius Slayton is a start. Slayton came on strong last year, using his size and speed to burn unexpecting defenses. Considering the Giants’ two starting receivers are more possession types, Slayton will break that mold and look to burn defenses. While the Steelers have a solid secondary, it isn’t hard to imagine Slayton winning deep once or twice.

While the Steelers have a strong group of cornerbacks none have truly top-end speed. If Slayton gets lined up against Joe Haden one on one and gets the early step on him, it can easily go for six via a long pass. Even if Slayton doesn’t hit a home run, he should see a few targets deep, and anytime he gets the ball in his hands, he’s a threat to gain more yards afterward.

Slayton won’t see the most targets more than likely, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone if he has the most yards of all the receivers. If he can add a TD on top of that, Slayton could vault himself into a low-end number one option. Given his big-play nature and natural speed, Slayton should be a safe option to have a decent stat line and could very well explode in week one.
