Ben Roethlisberger

Verdict: Start ‘Em

Now, starting an aging Ben Roethlisberger coming off an injury-shortened season in 2019 is a bold move. Even more to the point, Roethlisberger is a notoriously slow starter, typically taking the first three to four games to find his grove and settle in. His early-season stats are riddled with mistakes and turnovers, yet I see him as a sleeper QB for week one.

For starters, the Giants secondary is riddled with question marks. Because of this, Roethlisberger should be able to exploit some matchups for big plays. Going beyond just the matchup though, Roethlisberger seems hungry this season. His injury was unfortunate, but that isn’t what he wants the tail end of his career to be remembered for. He wants to win, and he seems more prepared to start the season than he has in previous years.

While the Steelers aren’t going to only rely on the pass in week one, I’d expect a strong output from Roethlisberger en route to a strong fantasy score. While he won’t be one of the top QBs points-wise, he should at the bare minimum be a QB1 in week one. While his stats may dip as the season continues, expect Roethlisberger to show up in week one ready and slinging against the Giants questionable secondary.
