Early season injuries

While Roethlisberger recovering from his previous injury is a concern, there are two Steelers currently struggling through their own injury. Diontae Johnson popped up on the injury report this week. Fortunately, he was able to log a practice on Friday. While the Steelers do have a capable receiving corps, the loss of Johnson would have been big.

Though all signs now point to Johnson suiting up this week, another prominent offensive player will not be in uniform. David DeCastro is reportedly going to miss Week 1. He is unarguably the best lineman the Steelers have and losing his presence will be a huge blow.

While the Steelers could overcome this injury to their All-Pro offensive lineman, it won’t make winning in week one any easier. The Steelers will be forced to slide Stefen Wisniewski over to right guard, and there will be a noticeable talent difference between him and DeCastro. Losing DeCastro won’t be enough to make Pittsburgh the underdogs in this game, but not having him will make beating the Giants even harder.
