Defensive line

You typically wouldn’t expect the Steelers to improve on the defensive line after losing a player like Javon Hargrave and not drafting a defensive tackle until the seventh round this year. However, it’s entirely possible that this is their very best positional group in 2020.

Returning to the field is Stephon Tuitt – a player who was having a career year before suffering a pectoral tear back in Week 6. Before his injury, however, Tuitt was keeping pace with Cameron Heyward statistically, and there were analysts who thought he was playing even better than the two-time All-Pro.

While the Steelers may not have prioritized defensive line in the NFL Draft this past April, they made an unusual divisional trade with the Ravens to acquire Chris Wormley – a former Michigan player they were reportedly very high on coming into the 2017 NFL Draft. Wormley hasn’t offered a lot as a pass rusher during his three-year career, but he’s a long, powerful defender who should fill in nicely for Tuitt and Heyward when they need a break.

Pittsburgh also has Tyson Alualu returning to the field after coming off one of the best seasons of his career in 2019. In addition, Isaiah Buggs showed some promise in 75 snaps as a rookie last year. This group is very strong at the top with adequate depth behind them.
