Wide receiver

The wide receiver position has been a rollercoaster ride for the Steelers over the past two seasons, but Pittsburgh is finally climbing that hill once again. After losing Antonio Brown before the 2019 season, JuJu Smith-Schuster began the year as the only trustworthy receiving option for the Steelers.

Though Ben Roethlisberger went down early, James Washington and Diontae Johnson really stepped up their game as the season went on – despite dealing with subpar quarterback play. Eventually, the two young receivers would lead the team in yards and receptions in 2019, respectively. With a full year of promising play under their belt, the arrow is pointed up for Washington and Johnson.

With an already promising young group of Smith-Schuster, Johnson, and Washington, Pittsburgh added an uber-talented receiver this offseason in Chase Claypool. The 2020 second-round pick offers size and speed no other receiver on the team has.

Last year, the Steelers were forced to rely on players like Ryan Switzer and Johnny Holton at times. With the return of Ben Roethlisberger, this group could prove to be one of the deepest young receiving corps in the league.
