The Pittsburgh Steelers came into week 1 against the Giants heavily favored.
The Pittsburgh Steelers would have a rough start to the game. After a good showing on defense in the first drive, Diontae Johnson would muff a punt deep on his own side of the field. Pittsburgh would hold them to 3. After a slow start by the Steelers offense, and a quick-strike touchdown pass from Daniel Jones to Darius Slayton, Pittsburgh would go on to score 26 straight points.
There was some rust and communication issues, But the Steelers would show to be way too much for the Giants, winning the line of scrimmage battle on defense, and throwing the ball against a secondary with little time to mesh before week 1.
After a slow start, the black and gold won against New York and walked away from Metlife winners in week 1. The final score would be 26-16.
The Pittsburgh Steelers started off on strong on defense even as their offense started slow.
A turning point for the Steelers passing attack happened with a 28-yard reception caught by Chase Claypool.
While Pittsburgh seemed to be calling plays a bit conservatively, on 3rd and 9 Ben attempted his first pass of over 12 yards. Chase Claypool made it happen and this had to have given some confidence to #7. Not to mention it added the first bit of splash to an otherwise bland first quarter for the Steelers offense.
It was a good sign of things to come. Ben clearly needed some positive plays to happen downfield. He seemed nervous and reluctant to take any chances. The Steelers offense is built around #7’s ability to sling the ball and this play helped a lot, by instilling some self-confidence into Roethlisberger.
