Malcolm Brown
The biggest fantasy waiver wire targets this week should be Malcolm Brown of the Rams. There was a lot of uncertainty going into the season about how carries would be divvied up, and the early signs point to Brown getting the brunt of the work. His 18 carries were the most out of the three options, and while rookie Cam Akers ran the ball 14 times, his average per rush of 2.8 yards didn’t inspire hope.
Now, Brown certainly won’t be a typical bell-cow type of RB, but considering second-year option Darrell Henderson played so sparingly, Brown would only be splitting time with Akers. While splitting carries is never ideal, Brown has the bigger body, meaning he should see the majority of goal-line work. This was evident by his two rushing TDs against the Cowboys. If that’s the case, his rush attempts mixed in with his scoring potential make him a favorable starter for fantasy football owners.
On top of this, he can catch the ball as well. He added three receptions and 31 receiving yards to his total, giving him a solid week one fantasy outing. While Akers will certainly improve as the year goes on, Brown has the most upside of the trio early on. Even if his rushes balance with Akers, Brown should see more of the goal-line work. He is an easy add for week one and an intriguing starter going forward.
Week one is in the books and fantasy football owners will be on the lookout for new talent to add to their rosters. While some questions have been added, others have dispersed and left fantasy players with a plethora of intriguing options going forward. Lay a claim for any of the options listed and reap the rewards they bring your fantasy team.
