The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing a very talented backfield against the Broncos.

Melvin Gordon was a free agent acquisition coming into 2020. The two-time pro bowler joined Phillip Lindsay to create one of the best 1-2 punches in the league at running back. They can both catch as well as run, but Melvin Gordon is on a different level catching the ball out of the backfield.

Phillip Lindsay exited week 1 early with a toe injury and is likely out several weeks. The former undrafted pro-bowler had just 7 carries for 24 yards before his injury. Pittsburgh may have been lucky on this one as Denver had just started showing us a formation that involved both running backs in the red zone.

In the 3rd Quarter, Lindsay faked outside and then cut back in on what was looked like an arrow route as Melvin Gordon drifted towards the flat drawing attention and giving Lock an easy 11-yard pass and catch to Lindsay. They were both used in the running game and the passing game. Even though Lindsay won’t be good to go for week 2, Melvin Gordon will still be a handful.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had to focus on him in the 2019 matchup against the Chargers and as a result, Phillip Rivers threw for over 300 yards. This is a good team the Steelers are going up against in week 2 and they are going to have to be a little more attentive to the pass than they were against the Giants.
