Diontae Johnson

Verdict: Start ’em

The early part of Diontae Johnson’s week one performance wasn’t promising. He muffed the first punt and had a pass go straight through his hands. A few other miscommunications led to what appeared to be a disaster of a start for the second-year wideout. He settled down in the second half though and ended the game on a positive note. He ended the game with six receptions, and while his yards per catch wasn’t great, he is set up for a solid outing against the Broncos.

He has the potential to be the receiver that catches 5-7 passes a game. Fans saw that late in the game, as Johnson suddenly became the go-to option for Roethlisberger. As well, given his style, he is a treat to take any pass he catches to the end zone. The early fumble on the punt likely shook him up, but he seemed to have rid himself of those nerves by the end of the game.

Expect Johnson to rebound in week two and get back on track. Finding the end zone isn’t unlikely, and if he can see a similar amount of catches but up his yards per catch, he should be in for a fine outing against the Broncos. The start of the game was a disaster, but he showed what he can do by the game’s end.
