The Steelers running game returned to form against the Giants

Before we discuss the impact of our franchise QB returning to the starting lineup, let’s talk about the impact that a second-year player had in the running game.  Benny Snell Jr., our second-year RB out of Kentucky, finished the night with 113 yards on 19 carries, according to the official website of the NFL.

After James Conner, our starting RB exited the game with an injury, Snell Jr. carried the load and helped to carry the Steelers to victory.  As I have stated innumerable times before, if we can run the ball effectively, we will generally ‘come out on top’ and that is exactly what transpired against the Giants.

It was inspiring to see Snell Jr. ‘step up’ and contribute in the manner in which he did.  What was more inspiring for the offense was the fact the Ben Roethlisberger, our franchise QB, returned to the starting lineup after having missed 14 games last season.  I don’t know about you but to see ‘Big Ben’ back at the helm was all the inspiration I needed.

“Big Ben’ finished the evening with 229 yards passing on 21 completions and threw for 3 TDs.  The TD passes are what impressed me the most, quite frankly.  What was also good to see, albeit a little scary, was the fact that ‘Big Ben’ was seemingly not afraid to run the ball when he had to, not that we want our franchise QB to run the ball with any consistency.

All in all, I would say the offense acquitted themselves quite well in the season opener.  Let’s see how the defense fared.
