The Pittsburgh Steelers front 7 will get after Drew Lock a lot in week 2.

Sacks and using pressure on quarterbacks are the key of this defense. Keith Butler gets pretty creative with scheming pressure and the Steelers have the talent to win one on one matchups across the board.

I watched Drew Lock a lot during last season and in week 1 of 2020, I saw him evade pressure and extend plays time and time again. He may not be the most accurate thrower on the run in the league. His lone touchdown pass against Tennessee was on a beautiful crossbody throw while evading pressure, and directing Fant with his free hand to where he was going to put the ball.

I’m not going to even try to compare it to Ben Roethlisberger extending drives but the pocket awareness Lock showed in week 1 was very impressive. The Titans registered a total of 5 QB hits on Lock per ESPN. Yet, they failed to record a single sack. Even with newly acquired Jadeveon Clowney beating blocks, again and again, Lock found ways to avoid going down and he made some good plays against a quality defense.

The Steelers aren’t just fielding a quality, but rather, an elite defense. They have a more athletic front 7 than Tennessee and they have shown a quality ability to contain mobile quarterbacks while generating pressure from the inside in the past. No quarterback likes getting sacked, but Pittsburgh is hoping they can pressure this young quarterback into making some bad decisions that end up in interceptions. Look no further than this.

The Steelers only managed 3 sacks against an offensive line filled with holes in week 1. The Giants were very good at utilizing quick throws and timing patterns to get the ball out quickly. It was a great idea, but Tj Watt took advantage of that as well. Lock is going to look downfield more if Denver’s run game doesn’t get going and if the Steelers can contain the top against the likes of Courtland Sutton and company, then they will have a field day against Lock.
