The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing their home opener in week 2.

While the lack of fans may lower the factor of home-field advantage, the black and gold have something to prove. The Steelers, play generally good at home. However, they haven’t won at Heinz field since week 13 of the 2019 season. While part of that is due to playing 3 of their last 4 games of the season away, the last home game they played was a chance to lock in a playoff berth against the Buffalo Bills in week 15. They lost that game at the point where they were at their closest to making the playoffs.

Historically, Denver has the better record in head to head match-ups with Pittsburgh. Denver’s record against Pittsburgh is 20-11-1 per The Football Database. The last time the Steelers beat the Broncos was in 2015. Not only do the Steelers have something to prove at home in this season, but they also have something to prove against the Broncos with Super Bowl aspirations.

This has all the appearances of being a trap game. The Broncos are more talented than most people realize and as a result, it is going to be a close game. It will more than likely be a defensive game, but with the talent, both of these offensives have I expect a couple of big plays to leak through. The Steelers being at home and not traveling to a different time zone will definitely be an advantage in what is likely a close game in week 2.

I expect the Steelers to win a close matchup with the Broncos in week 2. It will more than likely raise questions about how good the Steelers actually are considering how close the game will be without Von Miller. But with the injuries on the offensive line against a very talented front 7 even without Von Miller, I don’t expect this game to be a run-away.
