The Steelers held off an attempted Broncos comeback to earn a victory in the home opener

I don’t know about you, but why does it seem like the Steelers just cannot put an opponent ‘in the rearview mirror’ and keep them there for good?  Yes, we won the game and that’s all that matters, as I have repeatedly stated in several articles, but the fact of the matter is this:  we allow our opponents to hang in games almost to our detriment.

Look, it was great to get our second win in a row and our first win of the season at home, but, quite frankly, the game was much closer than it should have been.  The Steelers blew double-digit leads, had lapses in coverage that lead to scores for the Broncos, and needed a fourth-down stop to give the offense a chance to secure victory.

As we know, football is the ultimate team sport and the Steelers played complimentary football against the Broncos, which is the reason we are talking about a win in the home opener as opposed to lamenting a crushing defeat. The defense ‘turned up the heat’ and the offense scored 24 points with an additional 2 points coming in the form of a safety.

If you just looked at the final score without watching the game, you would have probably been left with the impression that the game was a ‘back and forth’ affair that culminated in a Steelers victory, but, honestly, the game was not really that close or at least it should not have been (that close).

Let’s see how we fared on the offensive side of the ball.
