The Steelers defense was dominant against the Broncos in the home opener

Despite the final score, which honestly should not have been as close as it was, the Steelers defense had a dominant performance against the Broncos.  I think it’s easy to laud individual performances, but let’s tip our caps to Keith Butler, our Defensive Coordinator since 2015.

I remember Butler as a player.  He was a darn good linebacker in his day.  He was an exceptional position coach for us and has really grown into his role as ‘DC’, in my opinion.  While I do not agree with every call he makes, e.g. having certain players drop into coverage whom we all know are not good in coverage, through the first two weeks of the season, the Steelers defense has come to play.

According to the official site of the NFL, we held the Broncos to 319 total yards, generated 7 sacks, had 1 INT, and forced 1 fumble.  We also held the Broncos to a 33% conversion rate on third down.

To be fair, there were and have been what I would consider to be egregious lapses in coverage, but, fortunately, those lapses have not cost the Steelers a game. I guess only time will tell if they do (cost us a game), but so far, so good two games into the 2020 season on the defensive side of the ball.

Let’s wrap up our discussion.
