Ben Roethlisberger needs to be careful with the ball

Last week I pointed out that Justin Simmons was a very talented player, and that he was someone Ben would have to be mindful of in Week 2. Justin Reid is another safety Ben will have to watch out for. While he is entering the 3rd year of his career he has obtained 5 interceptions and 15 passes defended so far in his career, per ProFootballReference.

He may not be as experienced as Simmons. But Reid, I believe, has the higher ceiling in terms of talent. This is the year that Reid can take off in terms of production and if Ben happens to throw any wobbly, or non-confident throws over the center of the field, then Reid is going to come up with it. Teams took notice of Reid after a strong rookie season part, and as a result, he saw fewer opportunities to attack the ball in his sophomore season in 2018.

He can effectively play against the run or the pass, tallying over 75 total tackles in each of his first two seasons. While he isn’t as big of a name yet, he is a guy the Steelers have to be ready for in Week 3.

The best route for the Pittsburgh Steelers to avoid letting Reid have his breakout game in 2020 is to keep the ball away from him. They can attack pretty much everyone else on this defense and show success. The receivers can not tip the ball up in the air over the middle of the field. If they don’t complete the catch, it has to hit the ground quickly. But a free safety is a player you can avoid if you chose to and the Steelers really should.
