Mean “Joe” Greene

This is not a shocker as Greene was the best defensive lineman of all time for Pittsburgh. He not only solidified himself as the best defensive player ever in the trenches but he is the best player to ever wear the black and yellow. Greene was a nasty and physical player that showed what being a Steeler truly meant. His legendary number 75 was something that struck fear into not only his opponents but teammates at times. He was the anchor and leader of that Steel Curtain defense and is the best to ever play for this franchise.

Greene was able to accumulate many accolades over his career with many stats to show his dominance. Those included 172 games started over a 13 season career with Pittsburgh. He also added an interception, 26 pass deflections, 16 fumble recoveries, 66 sacks, four Super Bowl Championships, 10 Pro Bowl selections, five-time First-team All-Pro, 1979 NFL Man of the Year, two time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, 1969 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, NFL 1970s All-Decade Team, Number 75 retired by the Steelers, and Hall of Famer.

Greene was the best to ever wear a Steelers uniform ever since the team was founded in 1933. He was the best and that includes the best defensive lineman. He is a person on the Pittsburgh Steelers Mount Rushmore if there ever was one. He was more than a player, he defined what it meant to represent the city he played for.
