Eric Ebron is a factor

Our own Tommy Jaggi wrote about how Eric Ebron is a waste of money, but he is a factor for this offense. His role as a pass-catcher is to be a matchup nightmare. I like that he is tough in the red zone and tough on third down.

According to ESPN, Ebron had 5 catches for 52 yards. Ebron also had a touchdown. I know his value is hard to quantify, but think it is a fit for this offense.

This offense no longer is set on stretching the field and taking what is given to them underneath. They are going to move the ball on third down, win in the red zone and not turn the ball over. Eric Ebron helps in all those categories.

What makes Ebron valuable is that the Steelers have some good receivers, but now they have another option in the middle of the field. He is a very quarterback friendly receiving option.

Ebron was the Steelers’ leading receiver but that is not what they brought him here to do. His job is to open things up for other receivers and give Ben Roethlisberger an easy target. He did all that and more today.

Conclusion

The Black & Gold won today and that put them in a good position. At this point, they look like a team headed to the playoffs. There are some things that will need to go right for this to continue.

The one thing that needs to happen going forward is to stay healthy. I think the Steelers have done a good job at this especially when you compare them to a team like the 49ers.

The Steelers are also playing like a team. When one area is down, you pick each other up. Today the secondary was down, but the running game picked them up. The Steelers need to continue to do that going forward.
