The Steelers faced off against the Houston Texans and won 28-21 thanks to an impressive second-half showing from their defense.
The Pittsburgh Steelers entered Week 3 ready to face their first big test of the season. The Texans entered 0-2 but were perhaps one of the most dangerous winless teams in the entire league.
The Steelers opened the game with a three and out followed by a lengthy drive by the offense but it fizzled out late. They got a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead but they quickly fell behind.
After the opening drive, the Steelers offense could not do anything punting on back to back drives. Meanwhile, Watson’s offense drove down and took the lead and extended it to 14-3 in the blink of an eye.
Pittsburgh found themselves in an early hole but turned things around on defense to hold Houston off so the offense could get going. Big Ben lead the Steelers on two scoring drives to take a 17-14 lead on passes to JuJu Smith-Schuster and Eric Ebron before the half.
The defense bent a little too far with under two minutes to go and allowed the Texans to take a 21-17 lead into the half. Pittsburgh had a lot of defensive adjustments to make and the second half proved much better.
Pittsburgh scored on their first possession. After being inside the five-yard line, they were unable to punch it in and settled for the field goal to make it 21-20.
The teams traded punts for much of the third quarter until a Steelers touchdown and 2-point conversion off a Mike Hilton interception allowed them to take the 28-21 lead. Pittsburgh again forced another three and out after the touchdown and took over with five minutes to go.
The Steelers got another three and out and never relinquished control of the ball to hold on 28-21. This was a huge win for the Steelers and there was plenty of action in this week’s stock report.
