Defensive coaching staff: stock – up

The Steelers defense has been phenomenal since the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick and a lot of that credit goes to the players doing their jobs. But, a good amount of that credit also goes to the defensive coaches on the sidelines.

The defense came out flat for much of the first half allowing 21 points and big plays left and right. They needed to make adjustments and fast.

The coaches typically get flack for the lack of adjustments in the second half of games. It seems the Steelers never seem willing to try something new when what they have been doing doesn’t work.

This was not the case against Houston as the defense came out blazing in the second half. They pitched a second-half shut out allowing just 51 total yards while forcing three punts and getting an interception on the only promising drive of the half for the Texans.

The adjustments the coaches made were perfect and the two halves were night and day for the defense. The coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for adjusting to the flow of the game and shutting Houston down.

The Steelers are 3-0 thanks to an impressive showing in the second half. They will make a trip to Tennessee next week to take on a potent rushing attack spearheaded by Derrick Henry.
