4 most disappointing Steelers so far in the 2020 season
By Tommy Jaggi
2. Minkah Fitzpatrick
I’ve got to be honest, I’m a little disappointed in what I’ve seen from the All-Pro safety in the early going, and I don’t want to just use the excuse that he’s being avoided in the passing game. Minkah Fitzpatrick hasn’t been downright awful like a few other players on the Steelers, but his start to the 2020 season is certainly disappointing.
Fitzpatrick has allowed 7 catches on 10 targets so far 96 yards and a 100.4 passer rating, according to Pro Football Reference. In the first three games, Minkah has already allowed more than half as many receptions as he did in 14 games in 2019 with the Steelers (13), and he’s a long way off from the 46.3 passer rating he allowed last year.
What’s worse is that when he’s been targeted, Minkah hasn’t even come close to making a play on the ball yet. He hasn’t recorded a single pass defense this season, and he’s now gone 10 straight games without an interception. This is a streak he will need to end very soon if he wants to maintain his status as one of the league’s most dangerous safeties.
