5. Ben Roethlisberger

We shouldn’t kid ourselves into thinking that Ben Roethlisberger is still an elite quarterback in the NFL. He’s averaging just 259 passing yards per game and has earned a modest 7.1 yards per attempt through the first three weeks of the season. However, that doesn’t mean he’s not playing like a top player on the Steelers.

While others missed the cut on this list who may be better in respect to their position, NFL teams live and die by the quarterback position, and Ben is giving Pittsburgh every opportunity to have a great season. Though he hasn’t been asked to do quite as much in terms of extending players and carrying the offense as he has in the past, Roethlisberger has been very careful with the ball in the early going – posting a 7/1 touchdown-to-interception ratio so far.

This won’t carry on throughout the course of the season, but his biggest problem in year’s past has been making too many mistakes with the ball. In 2018, Roethlisberger threw a league-high 16 interceptions and added between 13-16 interceptions in each season from 2015 to 2017, according to Pro Football Reference. This year he is on the pace for just over 5 interceptions this season. This would tie him for the lowest mark of his career when he’s played at least 10 games.
