5 greatest Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebackers of all time
James Harrison
This should not come as a huge shock to anyone, Harrison was the best pass-rusher that the Steelers have ever employed. Many might not like the selection due to how he left the team but you cannot deny his amazing career that he had with the Steelers.
He was apart of some amazing defenses and was still able to stand out among his teammates. He was the strongest and hardest working player that many had ever seen with his offseason workout videos showing his strength. Harrison was a player that really struck fear into the heart of every offense that they were facing that week. No one would outwork him and that’s what made this former undrafted free agent from Kent State a legend for the franchise.
Harrison had an amazing career and one that will always be remembered as a dominant force on the defense. Harrison played 14 years for the team and started 107 games during that time. He totaled seven interceptions, 23 pass deflections, 33 forced fumbles, one touchdown, 772 total tackles, 122 tackles for loss, one safety, 142 quarterback hits, 80.5 sacks, most sacks in franchise history, two Super Bowl Championships, five Pro Bowls, two First-team All-Pro, and 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
The Steelers have always had good defenses and listing the best at every position is a challenge. The talent at this position is legendary and these names will never go into obscurity.
