3 reasons the Steelers should not trade for Sam Darnold next year

JuJu Smith-Schuster recently shared his interest in Sam Darnold coming to Pittsburgh. Here’s why the Steelers shouldn’t consider trading for the Jets quarterback.
The Steelers have a great thing going right now, but it’s obviously not going to last forever. There currently isn’t a more ferocious defense in the National Football League, while quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his offense are doing enough to put Pittsburgh in a position to win games.
Unfortunately, that Super Bowl window will soon be closing shut when Big Ben hangs up his cleats. The Steelers had a 26-year drought without a Super Bowl win after the 1980 season and they spent over 20 years looking for a capable franchise quarterback between Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger.
Recently, JuJu Smith-Schuster made mention of wanting the Steelers to bring in Jets quarterback, Sam Darnold, while on the CBS Sports “All Things Covered” podcast. Here’s what JuJu had to say:
"“That my guy, man. Sam Darnold, if we could get him to Pittsburgh, I would, but I love Ben [Roethlisberger] so it is what it is. I’m just saying he’s a great kid. I played with him so he’s one of my boys so I wouldn’t mind playing with him again.”"
Logistically, there’s a chance this trade could make sense for both sides in 2021. The New York Jets are now 0-4 after losing to the Denver Broncos (previously an 0-3 team). There is a good chance the Jets could wind up with the number one overall pick next April, and passing on Trevor Lawrence would be a mistake.
This would put Darnold on the trade block. But should the Steelers bite? Though this transition from Roethlisberger to Darnold seems good in theory, here are three reasons why Pittsburgh should not be interested in trading for the Jets quarterback next year:
