Pass coverage

We can play the blame game all we want, but the truth is nobody has truly been great in the Steelers secondary thus far (though Joe Haden has probably come the closest). While Mike Hilton has been incredible in the backfield, he has still allowed 11 of 16 receptions to be completed for 107 yards and a touchdown, according to Pro Football Reference.

Steven Nelson and Terrell Edmunds have been the worst players in Pittsburgh’s secondary so far – averaging to allow nearly 15 yards per reception and surrendering over a 100 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks. In addition, Nelson has been tagged for allowing 3 touchdowns receptions through just three games in 2020.

Likewise, Vince Williams has struggled in pass coverage, while Minkah Fitzpatrick hasn’t been the factor we’ve expected so far. Despite a dominant defensive line that forces the ball out fast, Pittsburgh’s secondary hasn’t been able to capitalize. This will need to improve.

The Steelers might be undefeated early in the season, but there are many things they need to work on coming out of their Week 4 bye. If they can improve in these four areas, they can compete with any team in the league this year.
