4. Diontae Johnson

This may come as a bit of a surprise to you, as Diontae Johnson was leading the team in receptions and receiving yards prior to his concussion in Week 3. However, despite his flashy plays and ability to make defenders miss in the open field, Johnson really hasn’t been an efficient receiver early in the 2020 season.

Though Johnson’s average depth of target is one of the lowest among qualifying receivers in the NFL (104th), he’s still managing to catch just 56 percent of the balls thrown his direction (80th in the league) for a very modest 10.6 yards per reception. In addition, Johnson has one of the highest drop rates in the league to start the season, and he hasn’t separated from defenders at the top of his routes like he did last year when he led all receivers in this department. Through three games, he ranks 104th in target separation.

Johnson has the makings to be a very talented receiver for quite some time if he can improve in some of these areas, but he needs to grow at the position. These efficiency numbers don’t even include his two fumbles in three games this year – another area that he clearly needs to work on. Don’t let this worry you though. He will get better with time.
