The AFC North standings entering week 5
By Mike Morris
At first glance, Week 4 didn’t go very well for the Pittsburgh Steelers, through no fault of their own.
The Steelers’ matchup against the Tennessee Titans was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak among the Titans’ players and staff, while all three division rivals, the Ravens, the Browns, and the Bengals, won their games.
Lamar Jackson looked more like himself than he did against the Chiefs, completing 14 passes on 21 tries for 193 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. He also contributed 53 yards and a touchdown on seven carries on the ground.
The Ravens were efficient, running fewer plays (56 to Washington’s 70) for more yards (350, 343.) They’ll face the Bengals on Sunday to try and keep pace with the Steelers.
The Bengals also came away from last Sunday with their first win, beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 33-25. Joe Burrow had a strong outing (25/36, 300 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), but the true star of the Bengals’ offense was running back Joe Mixon, who supplemented his 25 carries, 151 yards, and 2 touchdowns with 30 yards in the air and a receiving touchdown.
The Cincinnati Enquirer quoted Mixon:
"“These past couple of weeks have been a little tough,” Mixon said. “But the thing was, nobody was noticing we were so close. It’s always one block away, one play away. We were able to execute those things today.”"
The biggest divisional story, however, came from AT&T Stadium, where the Cleveland Browns beat the Dallas Cowboys.
It wasn’t a completely easy 60 minutes of football for the Browns, as the Cowboys appeared poised to pull off another miracle comeback like the one that sunk the Atlanta Falcons in Arlington a few weeks ago. The Browns led 31-14 at halftime and added 10 points to that before Dallas came roaring back with 24 unanswered to cut Cleveland’s lead to 41-38. A Browns touchdown and an interception by Denzel Ward eventually iced the game.
The Steelers face the Philadelphia Eagles at 1:00 on Sunday. While the Steelers are coming off a bye, the Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football last week.
Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz currently holds a 60.6% completion percentage on the season. Coming up against the mighty Steelers defense, Miles Sanders is the Eagles’ leading rusher with 236 yards, and the offense’s third-down conversion percentage is 43.3%.
