3 reasons we should not overrate the Steelers based on what we’ve seen

Ben Roethlisberger hasn’t been spectacular
The Steelers don’t need Ben Roethlisberger to be Russell Wilson or Patrick Mahomes this year in order to have a shot at the Super Bowl. However, his play so far through three games is bordering on ‘not quite good enough.’
This certainly isn’t to say that Ben can’t improve as he continues to shake the rust off, but his efficiency has been less than stellar in the early going. According to Player Profiler, Roethlisberger is 23rd in the league in yards per attempt, 21st in accuracy rating, and 20th in catchable pass rate. In addition, things have not gone according to plan when throwing down the field or in the red zone as Roethlisberger is 30th in deep-ball completion percentage and 23rd in red zone completion percentage.
As a result, Big Ben boasts just the 25th best total quarterback rating in the league so far. If he can improve his accuracy in some of these areas, the Steelers could quickly develop into an offensive threat this year as well. To Ben’s credit, he has done a good job of protecting the ball and making good decisions so far. That will need to continue, especially if he doesn’t improve his efficiency this year.
