S Reshad Jones

It’s not like the Steelers have too many talented safeties on their roster that they couldn’t afford to bring in a veteran player like Reshad Jones. Jones played just 4 games for the Miami Dolphins last season, but has been relatively healthy for most of his career, and was a fine player for a number of years.

Jones has earned 2 Pro Bowl appearances in the past five seasons, and he’s no stranger to taking the ball away (as evidenced by his 21 career interceptions). Remarkably, Terrell Edmunds and backup Sean Davis have combined for just 6 interceptions in 86 career games (5 of them coming from Davis).

Reshad Jones may not be the long-term solution at the position, but it’s more important for the Steelers to seal up any holes on their defense rather than stick with the young player for too long. Sure, Edmunds could improve, but I would feel much more comfortable with a playmaker like Jones manning the strong safety position for the remainder of the year.
