What Eagles player would you want on the Steelers roster?
The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into their Week 5 matchup against the Philadephia Eagles. There is one player on that roster I would love to have in black and gold.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have few holes on their roster. The Eagles don’t necessarily have a player that would fill one of those holes. However, there is a player on the Eagles that could be a fit for the Steelers for the future and Pittsburgh could have drafted him in the 2020 NFL draft. His name is Jalen Hurts.
Jalen Hurts should not have slipped down to the 53rd pick of the NFL draft. I think the Eagles see him as the replacement to Carson Wentz and if the Eagles can’t find a way to win with Wentz, it is fair to say in the next year or two that Jalen Hurts will be the starter in Philadelphia. I also think he is going to tear up the league when he gets consistent opportunity. He is just a gamer.
Aside from his game against LSU Hurts showed up against every ranked team he played against in 2019. Against the highest-ranking opponent he faced in 2019 aside from #1 LSU, he played against #13 Baylor. In their first matchup, he threw for 297 yards, 4 touchdowns, and put up a great 71.4% completion percentage. He also added on another 114 yards rushing to his total. This was towards the end of his schedule as Oklahoma was preparing for the college playoff.
This was his biggest game of the year up to that point. Even as his numbers were not as good in the second game against Baylor, he would put up a 70.8% completion percentage with 287 yards, 1 touchdown, and 38 yards rushing, he maintained his composure and got his team ready for the playoff. Jalen Hurts was showing up. Baylor had found a way to limit his rushing attack in the second match up and that was a big part of Hurts’ game. He still did very well at limiting mistakes and he kept the game in check until Oklahoma could put it away. Sometimes in the NFL, even the most elite quarterbacks have to know when to do that.
While he didn’t necessarily have the accuracy as the former 2 Oklahoma QB’s selected in the first round he still put together a tremendous senior season. He a better runner than both Murray and Mayfield. He showed enough poise throughout the season to be an NFL starter and his ability to run with the ball is going to be the edge he would’ve needed to produce at a level equal to Murray.
I really wanted him leading up to the 2020 draft to be Ben’s successor. His mobility and ability to stretch the field pair together very well and he was a quarterback I envisioned having a tremendous amount of success in the black and gold for a very long time. That is why without a doubt he is the player on the Eagles that I would want as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
