The Steelers came away with their fourth straight victory on Sunday. Here are my four biggest takeaways from their win over the Eagles.

Things were far from perfect in Week 5. Though the Steelers were playing an incredibly banged-up Eagles team, this was a close contest throughout and Pittsburgh failed to execute in several areas on the field.

Thankfully, it didn’t have an impact on the final results of the game, as Pittsburgh was able to beat Philadelphia for its fourth consecutive win of the season. This marked the first time since 1979 that the Steelers have opened the season with a 4-0 record.

Though we can certainly be thankful for the win, there were positives and negatives to note from this contest. Here are my four biggest takeaways from Pittsburgh’s Week 5 victory:

The Steelers secondary is concerning

The Steelers have now allowed massive games from some average-Joe receivers to begin the season. In Week 1, they were shredded by Darius Slayton who boasted over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. In Week 3, a 30-yeard-old Randall Cobb went off for 95 yards and a touchdown.

This week, it was a widely unknown receiver, Travis Fulgham who destroyed their secondary. On 13 targets, Fulgham managed 10 catches, 152 yards, and a touchdown in just his second-ever NFL start.

Though some of this may have had to do with the aggressive play by Pittsburgh’s defensive line, there is no excuse for the amount of third-and-long conversions this defense allowed in Week 5. The Eagles were without players like Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, and Dallas Goedert. the results in the secondary simply should have been better considering the circumstances.
