Steelers secondary shows signs of life

Everyone who was starting to get concerned with the lack of splash plays and tightly contested catches on the back end, I think it’s safe to say we can put those thoughts to rest for a while after Pittsburgh’s dominant performance on defense.

While we expect the front seven to show up week in and week out, the secondary has been in question over the first four games of the season, as they have allowed too many easy catches and failed to get offenses off the field on third and log. That was not the case at all against the Browns.

Pittsburgh’s secondary kicked things off with a pick-six by Minkah Fitzpatrick on Cleveland’s opening drive. Eventually, this unit would go on to be credited with 7 pass defenses and 2 interceptions on just 18 passing attempts by Baker Mayfield.

This felt like a peek defensive game from 2019, as I really felt like any defensive back could jump a route on any given play. This was by far the best performance by Steelers secondary since last season, and they have given us a boost of confidence that they can keep this intensity up in the back end.
