Winners: The Defense

It was impossible to pick a singular defender as a winner, as the entire unit played at an elite level. Thus, the entire Steelers defense makes this list. Despite a few solid runs from Kareem Hunt, the defense was stout on every drive the Browns had. Shoutout to this secondary, as they were key in the two interceptions that the defense had.

While the loss of Devin Bush was untimely, Robert Spillane filled in admirably for him. It’s hard losing your defensive leader like that, but the Steelers communication didn’t skip a beat after he went down. While that will be a cause for concern going forward, the team persevered. Vince Williams was a help as well, maintaining his role as a defensive enforcer.

Finally, the pass rush was absolutely dominant. While four sacks aren’t unusual for this defense, the constant pressure on Baker Mayfield aided in his struggles on the day. Stephon Tuitt was nearly unblockable, while T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree constantly beat the offensive tackles they were up against. Again, the sacks weren’t always there, but the pressure was a key reason that the Steelers won this game.
