The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new face at inside linebacker after Devin Bush was lost for the season. Here are four questions Robert Spillane must answer in his new role.
The Steelers win over the Cleveland Browns was good in so many ways. The offense clicked with as James Conner and the offensive line led the charge on the ground, while wide receivers Chase Claypool and James Washington made a banged-up secondary pay through the air.
Defensively, there was nothing Pittsburgh couldn’t do on Sunday. Cleveland’s number one ranked rushing attack fell completely flat as the Steelers surrendered just 3.1 yards per carry to Kareem Hunt on the afternoon.
The passing game was even worse for the Browns, as Baker Mayfield was under duress nearly every time he dropped back. If he wasn’t getting sacks or drilled as he released the ball, he was pressured into making poor decisions – throwing two costly interceptions in Week 6.
Though we couldn’t ask for better results to the Steelers blowout win in the box score, it didn’t come without a price. Former 10th overall pick, Devin Bush, was lost to the season with a torn ACL on a non-contact play.
In his stead, former undrafted linebacker, Robert Spillane, filled in – and he did so quite well. Though the Steelers held a massive lead already at this point, Spillane was constantly around the ball and recorded 6 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss on just 38 defensive snaps.
While he impressed after entering the game in the second half, his real test will come this week against the Tennessee Titans (his former team) in his first-ever NFL start. Here are four questions that Robert Spillane must answer this week:
