T.J. Watt: Tackles for loss

Current stat: 9

Season pace: 29

When talking about T.J. Watt, it’s almost impossible to pick just one impressive statistic to narrow in on. However, what’s most impressive so far is his insane tackle for loss rate.

Watt has a number of statistics that will no doubt be career highs for him if he can stay on the field in 2020. He’s currently on track to record 14.5 sacks and a whopping 42 quarterback hits. However, his tackles for a loss are perhaps more impressive than them all.

One of the best predictors for success from the collegiate level to the NFL is a tackle for loss production. Much of the same could be said to show which players are most dominant behind the line of scrimmage in the NFL. While Watt earned an impressive 14 tackles for a loss last season, he is currently on pace to more than double that number.

Prorating his production from 5 games throughout the season, Watt would earn 29 tackles for a loss in 2020. This is something that only other-worldly football players can do. In fact, 29 TFLs is the exact same number that big brother J.J. Watt had in two of the 3 seasons in which he earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Getting double-digit sacks is one thing. Earning nearly 30 tackles behind the line of scrimmage is something that only a select few players can do.
