With November 3rd right around the corner, we approach every possibility the Steelers can take within the last week of the trade deadline.

Although the record may say differently, the 6-0 Pittsburgh Steelers are still far from being a perfect team. Not just for the apparent reason that there are at least ten remaining games left, but the explosive pass plays that occasionally occur against the secondary & recent injuries creating depth issues.

A week left on the trade deadline, the Steelers can make their mark that could help not only now, but most important later.

Sign: LB Wesley Woodyard

Imagine losing. Now, imagine losing to an opposing team that is also undefeated; that would’ve given you all the respect in the league. Step further? Imagine, after losing to that team, they acquire a former player of yours that not only fills a positional-need for your team, but there’s as well.

Although it sounds petty, the motive wouldn’t be the same coming from the Steelers organization if they were to move after former Titans LB Wesley Woodyard. The longtime-starter is without a team for the first time since entering the league in 2008.

After recent draft selections of LBs Jayon, Brown, Harold Landry, & Reggie Ragland, it pushed Woodyard into a rotational role in Tennessee in 2019. Starting only two games, he finished the season with 42 tackles, three tackles for loss, 2 QB hits, & one sack on 324 defensive snaps.

Someone who wouldn’t need to be a full-time starter & has the long-term experience of this league, his knowledge on & off the field could serve well for younger guys such as LB Robert Spillane and Ulysees Gilbert III. Also, with a playoff background in his career, as late as 2019, he understands the stakes of those moments that could prove well at that time.

On the field, Woodyard’s at this point is someone who would contribute more as a run defender & pass-rusher than coverage LB. Rightfully, fans may hope for the opposite, considering the depth of the position now. Still, a proven veteran, ability to play each linebacker spot, & someone who should cost relatively cheap to obtain, his added desire to return to the game makes him even more enticing.
