3 needs the Steelers must address by the trade deadline
Defensive Back
The Pittsburgh defense is a stout and tenacious group all around but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. When it comes to this secondary, they have some amazing players for their defensive backfield and some solid depth but it could get better during this all-in season that Mike Tomlin’s team seems to be ramping up for.
There could be some high profile players out on the market and some that could vastly improve this secondary either through depth or even challenging for a starter position. It is an interesting year because the black and yellow do have the cap space to make a decent move or two that could help propel them to another level of dominance if they want to pull the trigger.
Some options could include Stephone Gilmore (Patriots), Ronald Darby (Washington), Marcus Maye (Jets), and Harrison Smith (Vikings). Smith and Gilmore would cost a good bit to acquire and their cap hits are also sky high but they would be huge additions to this already talent-filled secondary. Gilmore is a rental as his contract expires after the season while Smith would be more tricky with another year on his deal. Maye from New York is very intriguing as he has starting potential and would provide amazing depth to a very shallow pool at the safety position.
