The Steelers were outplayed except in the only statistic that matters

I am going to review the ‘stat line’ for the Steelers game against the Ravens.  According to the official website of the NFL, one team was able to generate 457 net yards on offense; the other 221 net yards.  One team was able to run the ball for 265 yards; the other was able to run the ball for a measly 48 yards.

One team was able to convert 53 percent on third-down; the other was only able to manage a paltry 33 percent conversion of third-down.,  One team possessed the ball for 35 minutes and 22 seconds; the other team held the ball for 24 minutes and 38 seconds.

One team gave up 4 sacks; the other gave up only 2 sacks.  One team threw 2 INTs; the other team threw zero INTs.  One team lost 2 fumbles; the other team lost only one fumble.  One team committed 9 penalties; the other team committed only 3 penalties.

One team scored 28 points; the other team scored 24 points.  So who won this game?  If you did not watch the game and I recited the aforementioned stats, would you have believed the Steelers beat the Ravens? I certainly would not have believed it.

How we beat the Ravens with having played probably our worst game statistically all season is beyond my comprehension.  What is not beyond my comprehension is this:  the Steelers have played with tremendous inner fortitude all season and that fortitude was not only tested against the Ravens, but it was the difference between a win and a loss.

So what did we learn?  Let’s take a look.
